Changing the name of art recently seems to be becoming something quite common for foreign artists. Recall that just a few months ago Kanye West changed his name legally turning him into “Ye”. Already behind him it seems it is The Weekend’s turn to make such a decision. The Weekend is planning his art name to be Abel, just like his real name Abel Tesfaye. In a post made on twitter he said:
“You guys are funny. I feel like I have to change my stage name at ABEL at this point lol. Maybe I’ll cut out a ‘YE’ too and just legally change my name to ABEL. There is no adjective. Like Madonna, Cher or Prince.”
Following this news was not lacking the support from the fans but also that of the singer John Legend who while he was getting ready to go to the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, took a moment from his time to support this opinion of The Weekend and by saying: “ABEL is a super name”.
The Weeknd is one of the most popular and successful artists in the music industry where it was recently rated with a Grammy in the category of best melodic rap performance for “Hurricane” in collaboration with Kanye West and Lil Baby. The Weekend has also revealed plans for an upcoming tour with popular rapper Doja Cat.
