The most important event of the year, that of the Grammy Awards which for the 64th year in a row was scheduled to be held on January 31 is thought to be postponed. The reason for this is the spread of the new Omicron variant all over the world.
This would be the second year in a row that the Grammy Awards would be postponed due to COVID-19. Last year’s show was originally scheduled for January 31, 2021, but on January 5, 2021, it was postponed to March 14 due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles. At the time, the show also moved from the Staples Center to the Los Angeles Convention Center, which allowed less crowding. The academy is known to prefer to hold the show in a full-capacity arena, as they receive substantial ticket revenue. They would lose this if they held a reduced show like last year and if the awards date is postponed, the gala evenings will be automatically postponed as well. A spokesman for the Census Academy said no decision had been made yet and called for caution against speculation presented by unidentified sources.
Also not forgetting to mention, Trevor Noah will be back as the presenter of the 2022 Grammy Awards, while this year’s Grammy nominations were announced on November 23, 2021. Jon Batiste counts 11 nominations, followed by Doja Cat, H.E.R. and Justin Bieber with eight each. This year marks the first time the Grammy has had 10 nominees in each of their so-called Big Four categories – album, song of the year and best young artist.
