As soon as you hear the sound of Mariah Carey’s bells and the classic Christmas holiday anthem of 1994, you know that “the most wonderful time of the year” has officially arrived.
You can recognize every part of the song lyrics at the top of the list, but there are many interesting facts you need to know about the song, which was recently made with RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) certified diamond.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached an epic milestone becoming the first RIAA Diamond holiday song in the history of recorded music. Even 27 years after its debut, this hit continues to break records. Every holiday season, the song makes its annual journey into the Billboard Hot 100 charts, but in 2019, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached number one on its 25th anniversary. This year, the holiday hit won the place no. 1 in the retrospective of Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Holiday 100 Songs. The pop icon is not letting her record song stand alone in the Christmas genre this year. She recently released the song “Fall in Love at Christmas”, in collaboration with Khalid and Kirk Franklin.

1.The song broke three Guinness World Records.
“Jingle Jam” had an exciting year in 2019, when it won three places in the Guinness World Records. Carey’s hit holds records in categories such as: he highest-charting holiday (Christmas / New Year) in the Hot 100 by a solo artist, the most streamed song on Spotify in 24 hours and more weeks in the top 10 songs in the UK for a Christmas carol.
2.The song was actually written very quickly.
The Christmas classic was co-written with Carey’s then-partner, Walter Afanasieff. Although it has long been reported that the song only took 15 minutes to write, Carey later discovered that the timeline was slightly longer than that. She explained: “I started typing it on a small DX7 or Casio keyboard that was in this little room in the house I was living in at the time in Upstate New York. I just typed everything I thought. All the things that made me feel festive. for Christmas and I wanted others to feel it too. ” Although the song was written fairly quickly, the recording process took longer.
3.Mariah didn’t want to do the song in the beginning.
Before releasing “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, Carey had only released two albums and thought it was too early in her music career to release music for Christmas. Contrasting her belief that holiday music was something “people did later,” she said in an interview on the Bobby Bones Show that because of her love for Christmas, she decided to launch the song.
4.Mariah didn’t think that the song would become the hit it is today.
The singer doubted the success of the song at the time of its release because the pop artists who released Christmas songs were not as popular as they are today. When Billboard asked her if she thought “All I Want for Christmas Is You” would be the album’s biggest hit, she denied it.
She explained: “20 years ago, there were not many artists with Christmas albums. It was not a ‘science’ known at the time, and there was no one making new, big Christmas songs.”
5.Mariah decorated the studio with Christmas decorations during the registration session.
Since the song was recorded in August, Mariah thought it appropriate to give the studio a Christmas feel. In an attempt to enter a holiday mentality and allow the festive feeling to appear in the song, she undertook such actions.
“The studio looked like the Christmas period,” said producer Randy Jackson in Amazon Music’s mini-documentary Mariah Carey Is Christmas: The Story of “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. “The temperature was cold. There were, like, decorations, there were Christmas trees, there were Christmas candles.”
6.Mariah’s favorite lyrics to the song is: “I won’t even wish for snow”.
“It’s my favorite line because I always want snow,” Carey said in the Amazon Music mini-documentary.
7.The song was banned from being played in a bar.
The song may be the favorite of festive fans, but not for everyone! A local bar posted a sign banning the song, saying it would be skipped if played before Dec. 1 and “After Dec. 1, the song is only allowed once a night.”
