The Oscars 2022 awards ceremony will go down in history because of the conflict that occurred between actor Will Smith and comedian Chris Rock. The academy hoped film fans would unite to pursue the triumph of their favorite films but were confronted by a confrontation between the artists. Comedian Chris Rock told a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair, which prompted her husband, Will Smith, to get on stage and hit Rock while he was about to award the prize for best documentary.
ABC cut off the microphones just as the two started shouting at each other, but the two actors were heard shouting and insulting each other. Moments later, after 30 years of career, Smith won the Oscar for Best Actor and during the speech apologized to the academy and his colleagues. “Love will make you do crazy things,” he said. The academy condemned the actor’s incident saying they are against violence. Rock, on the other hand, has not decided to report him to the police for the violence.
During the event, the Academy held a moment of silence for the people of Ukraine, which is currently under attack by Russian forces.
