The first trailer for the Whitney Houston biopic has recently been released. Whitney died in 2012 at the age of 48 from an accidental overdose. “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” will be the film’s name showing the actress Naomi Ackie portraying the late singer. The trailer begins with Clive Davis of Arista Records discovering her singing in a nightclub at the age of 19.
“My dream? I sing the song I want to sing. To be as I wish,” confesses Ackie. The clip also shows Whitney’s dark undercurrents throughout her career, such as facing criticism that her music was not “black enough”.
I Wanna Dance with Somebody, directed by Stella Meghie and written by Anthony McCarten, hits theaters on December 21.
