Nominations for the Britsh Awards 2022 have been announced over the weekend.
Adele, Ed Sheeran, Little Simz and Dave lead the largest number of nominations ever at the Brit Awards. Each artist has four nominations, including nominations in the new category “Artist of the Year” which has replaced the awards “Best Artist of the Year” and “Best Artist of the Year”, and the award “Album of the Year” year”. New awards have been added this year to highlight excellence in the genres: alternative / rock, hip-hop / makeup / rap, dance and pop / R & B.
The change in awards came after criticism of the 2021 ceremony by singer Sam Smith, whose gender identity meant he could not be nominated in the men or women category. Smith said: “I look forward to a time when price shows can reflect the society in which we live.”
Among the nominees are some well-known successful artists. Dua Lipa is running for award in the pop / R & B and “Song of the Year” categories, despite having published very little new music. South Yorkshire pop singer Self Esteem has been nominated for “Best Artist” award.
There is a diverse range of artists competing for the group of the year, starting with the four-time winner of this award over the years, Coldplay, as well as the groups: Wolf Alice, London Grammar and Little Mix.
