Singer Mary J. Blige will add another award to her list, known as the Icon, and will be shared by the Billboard Music Awards 2022 (BBMA), the popular music event to be held in May this year. This will be her 11th Billboard Music Award, including Album of the Year and nine trophies for R & B / Hip-Hop Artist of the Year and Female Hot 100.
The “Just Fine” singer joins an exclusive list of only 10 musicians to receive the award. Previous trophy winners include Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Cher, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks and Pink.
This year the leader of the list of nominees is The Weekend with 17 nominations followed by Doja Cat with 14 nominations.
In a statement Mary J. Blige said: “My career has been such an extraordinary and unexpected journey that it has involved many twists and turns that I could never have imagined such as acting, producing, opening businesses and now, even my music festival.Through all this, I always in one way or another returned to my first love, music.To be known that way right now, with the “Icon” award at the Billboard Music Awards “It is an extraordinary honor and I am really humbled.”
Blige has also been confirmed to be one of the leading performers of the Billboard Music Awards 2022, before she accepts the prestigious Billboard Icon Award.
