Shakira recently shared some news with her fans. Through a post, the singer revealed that ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ has reached one billion streams on Spotify. “Wow! A billion streams for ‘Hips Don’t Lie'”, she wrote next to a photo of herself celebrating. “Thank you @spotify for the award, @wyclefjean for the collaboration and all of you for your incredible support,” she continued.
Her announcement follows a decision by Spanish prosecutors to pursue further legal action against the singer for tax evasion. Shakira faces eight years in prison plus a fine if found guilty of tax evasion from 2012 to 2014. In July, she rejected a plea deal, according to Reuters, that would have settled the case out of court. The artist has denied any wrongdoing and her public relations firm maintains that she has paid her dues.
“Shakira has always cooperated and complied with the law, faithfully following the advice of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, a prestigious and globally recognized tax firm,” the representative said. Shakira is convinced that her innocence will be proven until the end of the judicial process.” Shakira was first accused of tax evasion in January 2018. That year, she paid nearly $25 million in taxes.
