Thierry Mugler, the famous French fashion stylist passed away at the age of 73 yesterday. His death was also confirmed on his Instagram page by the Mugler brand. Born in Strasbourg in December 1948, he moved to Paris at the age of 20, where he founded the “Cafe de Paris” label in 1973, a year before founding Thierry Mugler. Many characters loved and known to the public and influential in society are dressed by him. David Bowie wore a Mugler dress to Saturday Night Live in 1979. Mugler dresses were worn by stars like Diana Ross, Madonna, George Michael and many others.
Lady Gaga wore a vintage Mugler outfit in the 2010 music video for “Telephone” and at the 2011 Grammys performance, came out of an egg wearing a Mugler gown. Singers Cardi B, Rihanna, Dua Lipa and Katy Perry have also all worn outfits from the Mugler archives in recent years. In 2009, Mugler served as artistic director for Beyonce’s “I Am…” world tour; where he created all the costumes and played a major role in creating the overall show.
His agent also revealed to the media that this week the stylist would announce new collaborations.
