The recording academy has announced that next year, to the Grammy Awards 2023 ceremony will be added 5 more categories which will be: Singer of the Year, Best Soundtrack for video games and other interactive media, album on good speech, best alternative musical performance, and best American performance. Furthermore, the Recording Academy will present a Special Merit Award for Best Song for Social Change, which will be determined by a Blue Ribbon Committee and will celebrate music that addresses social issues in a timely manner.
With the new categories, there will be a total of 91 trophies at next year’s Grammy Awards. In particular, the Singer of the Year award will honor musicians who have written at least five songs in which they are rated solely as a composer or co-author and not as an artist or producer.
Last year, the Recording Academy also introduced two additional categories: Best Global Music Performance and Best Urbana Music Album
